JAPAN 2023
PHOTOBOOK
A photobook layout design of film photography taken while spending time in Japan
Layout Design, Photography, Typography, InDesign, Lightroom
In 2023, my boyfriend and I had the opportunity to visit Japan. We’ve always talked about going, so we decided to plan it out and make it happen. We planned to be there for eleven days in order to visit all the places we wanted to see, making sure to schedule at least a few days in each location.
This book came about as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend, as film photography is his side hobby. He took so many beautiful photos during our adventure, so I wanted him to have a way to show them all off in one simple format.

Before creating the layouts, I had to edit the photos to be sure they’d translate correctly to print. The advantage of shooting with film, though, is they can be expanded exponentially, as they aren’t composed of pixels. This worked beautifully when creating full-bleed spreads, and they came out looking wonderful. Though light, all photo editing was completed using Adobe Lightroom.

The layouts for the book were designed with InDesign and printed through Blurb. As a passion project, this book was super fun to work on and so satisfying to see the end result. It’s separated into four sections, based on each location we visited; Izumo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. It’s 40 pages total; below are some of my favorite layouts.
